JAZZ COURSE

The Jazz Course at The Canford Summer School of Music is quite unlike any of the other jazz courses on offer around the country, and believe me, I have seen a few!
The course takes place in the wonderful environment of Sherborne School, with its historic buildings and yet in the middle of the old town. The Jazz Course is one of a number of music courses run simultaneously, so there are plenty of opportunities to listen to concerts of choral, chamber and orchestral music during the week.

There are usually about 15 students on the Jazz Course, led by Mike Hall and Gareth Huw Davies. The course is performance centred, with theoretical and historical elements introduced as appropriate. There is a concert by jazz students on the Thursday night in front of an enthusiastic audience from other courses.

The standard of catering and entertainment is high, with dances and parties through the week, the course dinner being held on Wednesday complete with salon orchestra to create a magical atmosphere! The day consists of three 1.5 hours sessions, two in the morning and another at 4.30pm, leaving the afternoon free for jam sessions, practice, a swim or a sleep!
